Letter to BFD Chief DiPinto

Dear Chief Di Pinto Jr.,

The BVA Board is writing in response to the display of a Confederate flag on a Brookhaven Fire truck.

The Board is eager to see quick and transparent resolutions to the investigations begun within the State Division of Human Rights Department and the Suffolk County Human Rights Commission. The Board looks to you, Chief Di Pinto Jr., for your continued open and clear communication with our community on the steps, actions and results your department is procuring.

The BVA Board has a history of working with the Brookhaven Fire Department for the good of our community. We look forward to continuing that partnership in a way that employs and celebrates the fundamental principles of any community: diversity, equality and inclusion.

The BVA Board cannot more strongly agree with your statement that racism has no home in our Firehouse nor in our community.

Sincerely,
The Brookhaven Village Association Board

SQUASSUX LANDING OPEN DATE 5/1/2020

Now that the NYS on PAUSE order has lifted for marinas, the BVA Board of Directors is excited to begin operations of Squassux Landing on May 1, 2020. Look for member keys to arrive in the mail in the coming days.

As we all are well aware, our world continues to change and we must adapt to it in the best and safest way possible. In our efforts to meet these changing needs, the BVA Board asks all who enter and moor their boat at the marina to observe the following:

  • Avoid gatherings, unnecessary contact and continue to maintain appropriate social distancing of six feet.
  • Wear gloves when handling the entrance lock, gate and water bibs.
  • Be sure to dispose of masks, gloves and all consumables safely on your own and not discarded on marina property.
  • Only boat with those in your immediate household.

Enjoy the beauty of Squassux, boating on the open waters and fresh air; just remember to enjoy it while boating responsibly for the benefit of everyone. Have a healthy and safe boating season!

PANDEMIC RESPONSE: CALL TO ACTION

Every day a new effect of the pandemic ripples through our nation, into our neighbor’s and into our own homes in unforeseen ways. Within our own community families are currently without income and it’s unknown when they’ll see it return as we wade through these uncharted waters.

The Brookhaven Village Association has made donations to Island Harvest Food Bank and Lighthouse Mission to help those in our community struggling whether from financial challenges or for our isolated, at risk elderly. We believe we are all in this together and are called to action by sharing our resources. The BVA encourages all in our community that are able, to please donate. In these uncertain times, it may be your neighbor or the family down the street that is in need.

Island Harvest Food Bank is a lifeline for those struggling to put food on the table during this unprecedented public health crisis. Your generosity will allow them to continue to provide critical food and support for homebound seniors, veterans, struggling families and children who are directly affected by the Coronavirus.

To donate please go to BVA supporting Island Harvest Covid-19 Response.  Please leave in the comments that you’d like your donation to serve the Brookhaven Hamlet area.  If you’d like to donate by phone, please call 516-294-8528  Please mention this will go towards the BVA fund.

If you’re struggling or you know of a struggling family, an at risk elderly neighbor or a veteran in need of food assistance please contact Island Harvest for pantry services. Island Harvest pantries have convenient grab and go bags pre-packed for families and individuals. Island Harvest Food Bank 516-294-8528

There are numerous ways to give to LightHouse with donations of food, monetary gifts and shopping their wish list of items on Amazon which are delivered directly to their headquarters.  All information on how to is available on their website.

ny ON PAUSE & sQUASSUX

Squassux Landing Marina WILL NOT be opening up on April 15, 2020 as planned.  The information received from NY State Senator Martinez, and Town Councilman Loguercio offices are that through the governor’s executive order we are deemed ” unessential ” as a community service.

We are prohibited  from conducting business as we normally would at this time of year.   No keys for the marina will be mailed out.  I would ask that you do not contact our dock master Andy Rubin, or any of the board at this time, as we are mandated by the state.  This is an unfortunate situation, but it is out of our hands.

We ask for your understanding. As soon as any communications allowing Squassux Landing to open are received, the membership will be contacted ASAP.
